Poor air quality readings false
Crofton’s poor air-quality readings late last week had nothing to do with bad air.
Instead, they were caused by a faulty filter in one of Crofton pulp mill’s three air-monitoring units.
“We had a problem with the filter in our air-particulate analyzer in the Crofton Escarpment weigh station and it was fixed Thursday,” said Catalyst mill’s environment manager Michelle Vesey.
“It was misreading for a couple of days until the filter was replaced.”
The mill’s other two stations were reading normally while the escarpment unit posted ‘very poor’ readings Thursday and Friday, as reported to the News Leader Pictorial by mill watchdog Mark Kiemele.
“It was kind of a rare issue but it’s real time on our website,” Vesey said.
“It’s good people are watching it.”
