Police have identified a Duncan motorcyclist who died Thursday, nearly two weeks after he crashed his bike.

Just after 8 p.m. June 29, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle collision at the 6000 block of Bell Mackinnon Road.

The incident involved 27-year-old Matthew Conrad of Duncan who had been traveling southbound when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck two parked vehicles.

Police said it appeared that speed might have been a factor in the collision.

Conrad was taken to Cowichan District Hospital with serious injuries and subsequently transferred to Victoria General Hospital in serious condition for further treatment.

Despite the best efforts of doctors, Conrad died Thursday because of massive head injuries sustained during the crash.

Friends and family of Conrad gathered near the crash site Thursday night to take part in a candlelight vigil.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
