There are a couple of individuals already considering candidacy for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Nanaimo-Cowichan riding.

“At least two people have indicated an interest in seeking the nomination,” said Mike Coleman, past-president of the Nanaimo-Cowichan Federal Liberals.

While not permitted to indicate who the possible candidates are, Coleman said one is from the Ladysmith area while the other is from the Duncan-south end area.

The news follows the local Liberals’ annual general meeting, held at June’s end in Ladysmith.

Coleman, who met with Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff twice during Ignatieff’s recent visit to the island, said a federal election is anticipated for October.

During the 2008 federal election, Liberal candidate Brian Scott came fourth in the Cowichan riding with 7.37 per cent of the vote.
