Continuum comes to Chemainus
The Continuum Consort replaces the Saturna Trio for Sunday’s session of St. Michael’s Presents in Chemainus.
The Continuum chamber-music group, will stage Musik in Wien, or Music from Vienna, featuring works by Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, Diabelli and others.
Continuum comprises soprano Elizabeth MacIsaac, flutist Emily Nagelbach, guitarist Douglas Hensley, and violist Molly Janz.
The Consort was formed in 1998 by MacIsaac and Hensley as an outlet for their wide range of musical interests played on strings.
Though its repertoire bridges music from the 15th to 21st centuries, the players are also dedicated to commissioning and playing new works for their combination of instruments.
That aim has earned Continuum various grants from the Canada Council and the B.C. Arts Council.
Their appearances have spanned island schools with a musical program from da Vinci’s time, and Elizabethan Masque at Victoria’s Shakespearean Festival, dates with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra’s Festival Baroque Ensemble, and a program for UVic’s Medieval Studies that spawned the live CD Pleasure, Pomp and Power.
Continuum has also issued an album named Si je languis.
