Duncan’s sure got talent in singer Jacob Woike.
He stayed cool when background music for his song Fever cut out during Saturday’s big finals.
Then he strolled over and handed judge Miranda Mykyta a single red rose.
“That was really good,” the speechless adjudicator said after Woike’s act ended.
So good that the crowd picked Woike, 16, as Duncan Got Talent’s 2009 winner.
The Cowichan Secondary School Grade 11er student toasted his three fellow hopefuls Crystal Van Boven (second), Chasing Shadows’ Eric White and Brody Reid, and Kira Carroll (fourth.)
Woike, who scored $1,000 in downtown Duncan shopping dollars as DGT winner, also applauded Canadian star Michael Bublé as an influence.
“He’s a huge impact. His style suites my voice,” said the tenor who takes voice lessons at Duncan Music.
Woike cheered the Duncan Business Improvement Area Society’s annual talent contest that salutes valley performers.
“I know a lot of people with undiscovered talent and it’s great we have something to showcase it.”
Meanwhile, Woike — who appeared in CSS’s February musical Steel Pier — is getting ready for counseling duty at Camp Qwanoes before Cow High’s classes restart.
He aims to spend his Talent loot on school clothes “and I want to buy my mom something nice because she’s always supported me.”
