Contestants for Duncan’s Got Talent 2009 must register immediately to be eligible for Saturday’s auditions.

Nine performers have signed up so far for the Talent contest awarding the winner $1,000 in downtown shopping dollars after the big July 18 finals in city square.

Agnes Caravati of the hosting Duncan Business Improvement Area Society said the hour-long auditions start July 11 at 11 a.m. during the weekly Duncan Farmers’ Market.

Acts will be judged by pianist Taylor Winfrey, dance teacher Judy Hogg, and a mystery adjudicator.

The same trio will judge the semi-finals July 12 at 3 p.m. in Maj. Charles Hoey Park beside the train station.

Four finalists will be picked for the July 18 city square showdown at 3 p.m. after the quartet of hopefuls appears in the Duncan Summer Festival Parade.

The finals will be judged by the audience. Judges will give a positive critique to all four performers.

Runners-up will also receive prizes.

Talent’s 2008 winner, singer Hope King, will perform on July 18 too.

Second-annual Duncan’s Got Talent is open to performers age 13 and older.

Hopefuls include Kascia Chow, Katiera Brown, Kira Carroll, Athen's Gate sextet, Jacob Woike, Lauren Cooper and Chantelle Saul, Rachel Jackson, Jason Joseph, and the duo Chasing Shadows.

Younger performers will open for pro group The Kerplunks July 14 during what the DBIA calls Duncan’s Got Talent Jr.

Those kids include Schayde Dame, Parker Schmidt, Kayleigh Morris, and Anastasia Glerup.

For Talent registration details, call the DBIA at 250-715-1700 or visit www.downtownduncan.ca.
