Move over American Idol — Mill Bay’s got talent too.

Proof arrived during Sunday’s vocal showdown between 10 junior singers and as many seniors vying for the Idol crown at Mill Bay Centre.

A trio of judges crowned performer Brynn Griffiths as the junior Idol while Penny Parsons earned the senior title.

Emcee Lori Carroll said Mill Bay’s premiere Idol gained some 50 videotaped entries whittled to 10 junior- and senior- slot finals.

Carroll said judges Stephanie Lang, Flora Scott and Paul Wainwright gave performance critiques.

Idol 2010 will see three different judges, Carroll noted.

Grade 5 junior winner Griffiths, 10, earned $250 Mill Bay Centre dollars by singing Bryan Adams’ Summer of ’69.

Runner up Anastasia Glerup, 9, won $50 shopping dollars for her costumed Chiquita Banana song, and Paige Wilbee, 9, earned $25 in shopping dough for singing The Climb by Miley Cyrus.

Thrifty Foods’ veteran staffer Parsons earned $500 in shopping bucks for singing Martina McBride’s Broken Wing.

Senior runners-up included Aidan Carr, 13 ($75) who sung Adams’ Heaven, and Kira Carroll, 14, who performed The Judds’ tune Big Deal to earn $25 in shopping dollars.
