Jake and Elwood paint theatre with blues Friday

The Blues Brothers' musical mission from God descends into the Cowichan Theatre Friday.

Touts say the Official Blues Brothers Revival is so authentic it’s sanctioned by the late John Belushi’s estate, and Canuck actor Dan Aykroyd.

They respectively starred as ‘Joliet’ Jake Blues and brother Elwood in John Landis’ 1980 flick that’s become a cult hit.

The stage version for all ages sees Wayne Catania as Jake and Kieron Lafferty as Elwood.

The Revival’s billed as an homage to Chicago’s rich history of blues, gospel, and traditional soul music presented by music director Ron Walters Jr. and his sizzlin’ Revival Blues Band boasting a four-piece rhythm section and a powerhouse horn section.

The theme of Revival is the dream of salvation.

Jake has spent most of the past several last years stuck in purgatory and the Blues Brothers are on a mission: to get Jake into the Kingdom of Heaven.

With the help of Sister Callie, preacher man, three intriguing choir singers and the band, Jake seeks redemption through melody, rhythm and verse. After some reminiscing with the band, some impassioned preacher and inspired music, the audience is enticed, ready and willing to join the mission by joining the choir which gets to the heart of the show—it’s about the music.

After several years working from coast to coast in the award winning Las Vegas show Legends in Concert, the Revival show was approached by filmmaker Paul Jay with an idea, the outcome was A&E's highly praised docudrama Lost in Las Vegas.

“ Infectious and unbridled energy…

blows the roof off,” opined Jeff Johnson of the Chicago Sun Times.

“ The ‘Blues Brothers Revival’ is a hand-clappin’, foot-stompin’ good time,” wrote Don Snider of Theatrelook, Chicago Bonnie Stevenson, ‘The Petrolia Topic’
