Volunteers are urgently needed for the Canadian Red Cross’s equipment loan service in Duncan.

The operation on York Road lends out health gear such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and canes to folks recovering from surgery and illness.

Diane Marwick, the Red Cross’s Central Island HELP coordinator, explained local service was expanded in Duncan several years ago to meet rising demand for equipment in the Cowichan area.

“The Red Cross sincerely thanks the dedicated volunteers who continue to keep this depot running.

“More volunteers are indispensable.

“Without them and their support we could not continue providing the current level of service to the community.”

The Red Cross needs groups and individuals interested in answering calls, reserving equipment for pick up, and inventory control through a basic data system.
