Olympic torch route: Chemainus/Crofton
In Crofton the torch runs from the Saltspring ferry dock, west on Chaplin, south on Queen, west on Joan, north on York and west on Chaplin. In Chemainus,it heads from Halhed north on Chemainus, east on Victoria, north on Willow, north on Maple, west on Pine, south on Willow, west on Cypress, then south on Chemainus to Chemainus Theatre.
Torch scheduled for Crofton between 4:22 and 4:36 p.m.; Chemainus between 4:45 and 5:08 p.m.
In Chemainus, the commemoration of the arrival of the torch has turned into a community Halloween celebration.
The fun starts 3 p.m. at Waterwheel Park with a pumpkin carving contest.
The torch committee is inviting merchants to participate in the celebrations by staying open until 5 p.m. and adding to the celebratory mood by providing treats for local children and lighting up sidewalks with friendly Jack o’ lanterns.
In Crofton, the party hits the streets at the Crofton greenspace between3 and 5 p.m. and continues at the Crofton Community Centre at 7 p.m. with a costume contest, including prizes for the best Olympic costumes.
