Some Duncan Summer Festival visitors may be crying in their beer this year after Duncan Elks Club members decided not to stage their perennial beer garden.

Lounge manger Sylvia cites tough times and rising costs for scrubbing of the 19-year-old beverage garden this year, but the popular suds stop may return for summer fest 2010.

“It takes a lot of volunteers to run it,” she said.

“It might be back next year.”

While beer taps may be absent from the Elks parking lot this year, members may still fire up their usual hot dog and hamburger grills for summer festival, Lucas said.

She noted proceeds regularly made from the beer garden might be made up from other fundraisers.
