WEB EXTRA: Public input wanted for business park

Members of the public are invited to a public meeting to air views on a proposed $40-million business park just off the Trans-Canada Highway.

Balbir Parhar, of the Parhar Group, is the man behind plans to build a 200,000 square foot park on the existing 3.25-hectare site at 5301 Chaster Rd.

In an earlier interview with the News Leader Pictorial, Parhar said he’s had much interest in the light commercial and industrial park that would include businesses as diverse as a cabinetry shop, a wood stove business, a fitness centre and a 60,000-foot food processing building.

The site is currently zoned for local commercial use.

The public meeting is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the old Koksilah School, 5213 Koksilah Frontage Rd.

Public meetings are typically held to gauge public appetites for projects and this will be no different.

It’s expected the developer will make a presentation and answer questions from the public.

As well, various Cowichan Valley Regional District staff members will be on hand to answer questions.

If the CVRD board decides the amendment to the bylaw should move forward, it would hold a formal public hearing, most probably in the New Year.
