Port Alberni RCMP have two men in custody and are seeking a third man after three separate stabbing incidents in one day.

According to Cpl. Rob Foster, police arrived at a “blood soaked scene” and found a female bleeding from the head and chest when they responded to a call at an apartment building at 2800 Fifth Ave. at 8 p.m. Nov. 25. She was treated for her injuries at West Coast General Hospital and released.

Police arrested a male suspect outside the building. Clayton Sutherland, 30, is charged with assault causing bodily harm with a weapon.

In Wednesday’s second incident, police responded to a call at 10 p.m. of a man threatening then attempting to stab a victim with a homemade spear at the Rusty Anchor Inn.

Police apprehended the suspect, and seized two homemade spears made from a shovel handle with a large kitchen knife blade affixed to it. Peter Craegh, 54, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and assault with a weapon.

Alcohol was a factor in the two incidents, Foster said.

Sutherland made his first court appearance, and will appear again Dec. 10 via video.

Craegh was released on bail, and will make his next court appearance Dec. 17.

In the last incident at 4:15 a.m., police answered a call in the 5100 block of Argyle Street. According to police, a verbal confrontation between the victims and suspect had taken place. The suspect removed a machete from his vehicle and threatened the victims. He then tried to run them over with his car several times before fleeing. Police later recovered the car and machete, and are looking for the suspect.
