Stolen money from inside city hall prompted the RCMP to investigate and an employee to resign, city manager Ken Watson said.
The theft occurred in Oct. when a sum of money was discovered missing from a safe after a count, Watson said. The matter was forwarded to the RCMP, and an employee has since resigned, he added.
Watson wouldn’t confirm the amount of money stolen, or when exactly it was discovered. “It’s in the RCMP’s hands now, so I don’t want to comment any further,” Watson said.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Murray confirmed that the RCMP has completed an investigation into the matter, and has forwarded a file to provincial crown council recommending charges, he said.
