One person is dead following an accident at Cameron Lake, approximately 20 kilometres east of Port Alberni, Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday at 2 p.m. Oceanside RCMP members responded to a call about an overturned vehicle in Cameron Lake, just off Highway 4 between Port Alberni and Parksville. The car was submerged and lying on its roof in about two metres of water, Cpl. Darren Lagan said in a press release.

The vehicle was a 1995 black Jeep Cherokee. A lone occupant was located inside the vehicle. Identity of the occupant is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, but unconfirmed reports have the person being a female from Port Alberni.

An RCMP traffic analyst from Central Island Traffic Services and three members of the RCMP underwater recovery team attended the scene. Environment Canada was also notified of the incident.
