Police have identified the person killed in the car accident on the hump Tuesday afternoon.
According to RCMP Staff Sgt. Lee Omilusik, Leonard Gibson, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His wife, Fern Gibson, 76, remains in a Victoria hospital with life threatening injuries.
The couple were driving west in their grey 2001 Pontiac when they failed to negotiate a turn. The car went off the road, struck a large rock and skidded down into a ditch, ending up on its roof.
Emergency personnel removed the couple from their vehicle using the Jaws of Life.
The cause of the accident hasn't been determined. However, alcohol has been ruled out and the investigation continues.
