Low water levels at one of Port Alberni's reservoirs have prompted the city to impose stage one water restrictions, city engineer Guy Cicon said.

City councillors listened as Cicon made the announcement Monday night.

The restrictions take effect Tuesday, July 28, and a series of outdoor watering measures will be implemented.

As of Tuesday, homes with odd numbered addresses will be able to use water outdoors on Saturdays, Mondays and Thursdays.

Homes with even numbered addresses will be able to use water outdoors on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, Cicon added.

All outdoor water use will be restricted to between 6-10 a.m. and 6-10 p.m.

Residents are also further requested to minimize car washing and hosing off driveways.

The restriction was triggered by water conditions in two reservoirs, Cicon said.

"Lizard and Bainbridge Lake haven't been overflowing or refilling, for the past week due to the hot weather," he said.

Stage two water restrictions could be implememnted in the next four to six weeks, Cicon said.

"When Lizard Lake levels are substantially reduced and have to be bolstered by Bainbridge, then stage two is triggered," he said.

The last stage one restriction to be implemented was in 2006.
