The body of a deceased male found on a grassy hill at Pacific Rim Shopping Centre on Johnston Road has been identified as Port Alberni resident Edward Dean Gallic, 46.
According to an RCMP press release, a passer-by discovered Gallic's body at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in a field between the Extra Foods Store and Staples.
The initial investigation does not indicate foul play resulted in Gallic's death. However, police aren't ruling it out until autopsy results have been received.
Gallic's body may have been in the field for a few days before being discovered, the release noted.
The incident is being investigated by the RCMP and B.C. Coroners Service.
If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 or Crimestoppers.
