UCLUELET – A Victoria man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, and unlawful confinement after a 23-year-old woman was assaulted in Ucluelet.
The woman had been hitchhiking in the Port Alberni area on Sept. 29 when she was picked up at 4:20 a.m., said Const. Darren Lagan, a communications officer with the Island District RCMP.
“The male driver, a stranger to the victim, allegedly drove her to a remote location near Ucluelet, where the assault occurred,” Lagan said in a release.
“As a result of initial investigational activities, police located a suspect in this assault, in the Victoria area, on Sept. 29, at approximately 4 p.m.,” Lagan added.
The suspect has remained under supervision or in custody since then. The victim received medical treatment, and has since been released from care.
Daemian Montgomery Halladay, 33, made a second appearance Friday in Port Alberni Provincial Court.
