The Alberni District Secondary School Armada senior boys basketball team fired the first salvo at the Vancouver Island Basketball Classic tournament in Victoria.
The Armada defeated Victoria’s Glenlyon Norfolk Secondary 84-64 in their first game. The Armada’s Jess Black scored 30 points while guard Greg Dyck tallied 11 points.
The Armada advance to the winners bracket to play the Oak Bay A team, who earlier crushed Mark Isfeld 86-25. They Armada will next play Delta’s Seaquam Secondary or Nanaimo’s Cedar, depending whether they win or lose.
