PoMo's Lidin nets BCCAA women's soccer player of year

One of the B.C. Colleges Athletic Association’s top goalkeepers is now officially the league’s top player.

Port Moody resident and Gleneagle secondary school grad Loren Lidin of the Langara Falcons was named the BCCAA women’s soccer Player of the Year this week, in addition to being named a BCCAA first-team all-star. Hence, Lidin becomes a candidate for the CCAA Player of the Year award which will be announced later at the national championships hosted in Ontario by Humber College.

“This recognition is very well deserved,” said Langara head coach Ryan Birt. “Loren has always possessed some very good attributes of a quality goalie, such as her height, her athleticism and her technique. However, she has really focused on working on her deficiencies over the last year, and it has paid off. I’m very happy for her.”

Lidin, a third-year business student, recntly concluded regular-season play with a BCCAA-leading goals against average of 0.59, to go along with a league-best four shutouts.

Her standout play helped the Falcons finish the regular season undefeated with nine wins and two ties, heading into a this weekend’s BCCAA provincial championships hosted by Douglas College at Coquitlam Town Centre Park.

The Falcons earned a bye into the semifinals, where they will face the winner of North Vanvouver’s Capilano University/UBC Okanagan which is to be played today (Friday).

The semifinal is set for 11 a.m. at Cunnings Field. Lidin and the Falcons are currently ranked No. 2 in the CCAA and are the defending national champions.
