Port Coquitlam product Jenn Salling pounded a triple and a double to rally Canada to a 4-1 win over Japan and the bronze medal at the KFC World Cup of Softball senior women’s tournament, which concluded Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

The United States captured gold via a 3-1 win over Australia.

Salling opened the scoring for Canada in the bottom of the third inning when her triple brought home Victoria Hayward, who had previously singled. Salling then scored herself on an interference call, upping Canada’s lead to 2-0. Salling would also later drill a double.

Jennifer Yee then gave Canada a 3-0 lead before Japan cut the margin to 3-1, after which Canada made it 4-1 and closed out the scoring.

After being on the road for nearly a month, the Canadian players will take a week off before travelling to Venezuela, where they’ll compete in the 22-team Pan American Championships from July 31 to Aug. 9.

The event serves as a qualifier for the 2010 ISF Women’s World Championships.
