Collins to shoot for Clan
Published: October 09, 2008 6:00 PMThe three-time CIS National Champion Simon Fraser Clan university women’s basketball program announced the commitment of top B.C. recruits Kristina Collins, a Port Coquitlam resident and Riverside secondary school product, and Carla Wyman of North for the 2008-09 season.
Wyman was the leading scorer at the 2008 provincials for Argyle, netting 95 points in four games while shooting 11-for-24 from three-point range during the tournament. Defensively she tied with Collins for the lead in steals at the tournament with 19 and was a member of the Under-17 B.C. Provincial Team alongside Collins during the summer months.
While she is still uncertain about what she will be studying, her style on the court has drawn comparisons to former Clan star Kelsie Thu in her ability to fly up and down the hardwood.
“I had the opportunity to go and watch a number of SFU games through 3D basketball, and was very impressed with how good they were,” said Wyman of the Clan. “And I became very good friends with Kristina [Collins] over the summer as well, so to get to go to school with her is also an outstanding opportunity.”
The 2008-09 Clan open their Canada West regular season on the road on Oct. 24, against the Trinity Western University Spartans.
Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
