NC Devils’ Wong whistles in pair
Published: October 09, 2008 6:00 PMAaron Wong whistled home two goals to guide the North Coquitlam Blue Devils to a 3-0 triumph over Coquitlam Metro-Ford Celtic in a boys Under-15 Bronze youth soccer battle Saturday.
Dylan Sztenia netted what proved the winning goal early in the second half, while Christopher Yee smartly set up one of Wong’s markers. Sean Campbell bagged the shutout.
The previous week, Szteina, Wong and Rob Gido all struck net as the Blue Devils bounced Mission United 3-1.
Stewart Barnetson, Mason Rinke, Evan Kear and Brandon Domenis were defensive standouts for the Blue Devils, who got winning netminding from Clay DeGraaf.
• In U-15 Silver play, Jordan Baratto was outstanding in goal as the North Coquitlam Gunners blanked Peace Arch United, 3-0.
John Huh knocked in a pair of goals for the Gunners, while Roman D’Alessandro rounded out the scoring.
Jordan Bengco and Kaden Kerschbaum were steady on defence in helping secure the shutout.
• Kathy Negahdar converted a Rebecca Fisher corner kick for the lone goal as the North Coquitlam Roadrunners edged the Golden Ears Elite 1-0 Sunday in a girls U-15 Silver affair.
Kirin Dubois, Elysa Carbone and Ally Mandley were all steady for the Roadrunners.
• North Coquitlam Whitecaps saw their four-game win streak come to halt Saturday when they were dumped 3-1 by the Peace Arch Rangers in a boys U-14 Silver showdown.
Nicholas Chua scored the Whitecaps’ lone goal.
• Liam Morgan, Reilly Peters, Hani Dhouk and Gabe Giles Soares all scored to rally the North Coquitlam Spartans to a recent 4-1 win over the Aldergrove Vipers in boys U-13 Silver play.
• Tara Beuk’s first-half goal was enough to boost the North Coquitlam Tornadoes to a 1-1 draw versus Burnaby in a girls U-13 game.
Defender Cassidy Tocheniuk and goalie Nia Border helped preserve the tie for the Tornadoes.
COQUITLAM METRO-FORD
Andrea Saavedra slipped in two goals as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Inferno burned the PoCo Force 3-0 in a girls U-17 Gold match.
Sarah Arthur also tallied for the Inferno, with Kirsten Jay and Paige Archer sharing the win in goal.
• Hayley Myers scored on a 20-yard blast late in the game to give Coquitlam Metro-Ford Synergy a 1-1 draw with Burnaby’s Cliff Avenue United in a girls U-16 Gold tilt.
Defenders Gina Graham and Jessica Mattock, along with midfielder Miranda Mogg, turned in strong performances for the Synergy.
• Emma Cunningham, Jane Faulkner and Hannah Healey fired in a goal apiece as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Hot Shots rocked Royal City 3-0 Saturday to improve to 5-0 in girls U-14 Silver ‘A’ league play.
Vanessa Baker scooped the shutout.
• In another girls U-14 match, Jackie Duck collected the shutout as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Panthers posted a 4-0 shutout over the Pitt Meadows Peppers.
Taylor Carlson-Parker, Kirstyn Baldock and Nikki Culpo were steady on defence for the winners.
PORT MOODY
Nicky Phillips ripped home both goals as Port Moody United bounced Burnaby’s Cliff Avenue United 2-0 in a girls U-17 Gold game Saturday.
Jana Hayes and Nikki Stanley drew assists on Phillips’ markers, while Jenna Kara nabbed the shutout with help from defenders Jessica Brown, Alexandra Davidson and Meghan Carr-Hilton.
• Injuries and illness factored in Port Moody Nitro’s tough 1-0 defeat to the Burnaby Blazers in a girls U-14 Gold game.
Nikki Bishop and Lindsay Kirk were strong defensively for the short-staffed Nitro.
PORT COQUITLAM
Melissa Morris and Georgia Hope blasted in two tallies each as the PoCo Beez pounded the rival Rockets 6-0 Saturday in a girls U-12 Silver ‘B’ outing.
Hayley Menard and Nicole Anderson scored the Beez other goals, with defenders Sonia Ardita and Kelly Petraschuk helping Hailey Astle scoop her third shutout of the season.
