First-half feast gives Wolves slick win
Published: October 07, 2008 6:00 PMAzad Palani converted a loose ball early in the match for what proved the winning goal as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Wolves blanked the Delta Whitecaps Prospects 3-0 in men’s Premier division play Saturday in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League.
Creative passing by Justin Hebner and Emilio Bottiglieri set up Palani’s goal, while Omari Aldridge upped the Wolves’ margin to 2-0 when he netted his third goal of the season on a clever Adam Day through ball midway through the first half.
Just before the break, Palani bagged his second goal of the game on a near-post header off a Boittiglieri cross to put the Wolves in complete command. Defenders Scott Butschler and Dave Sambol helped Mathew Bird collect the shutout as the second-place Wolves jumped to 4-0-1 in the win-tie-loss department. Delta dipped to 1-1-3.
