Wind wipes out PoMo puck tilt

About the only thing that can stop the Port Moody Black Panthers these days is a hurricane.
They may not have quite been 100 mile per hour winds Saturday night but they were strong enough to cause mass destruction in the PoMo Recreation Complex parking lot and ensuing trepidation from attending firefighters, enough to force the postponement of the Cats’ scheduled Pacific International Jr. ‘A’ hockey league game versus the Grandview Steelers.
The Cats were preparing to put their three-game win streak on the line versus the defending PIJHL playoff-champion Steelers when, about 6:15 p.m., a large tree was brought down during the storm and “wrecked six or seven [parked] cars,” said Black Panthers general manager Ron Luniw.
“It was a wild one, for sure,” Luniw said. “[The firefighters] came in and cleared out the whole building for safety reasons.”
Luniw said he’s working to reschedule the game as soon as possible but, because of tight scheduling, it “might not be until around Christmas.”
The Cats currently own a 5-4-0-0 record, while Grandview sits at 6-3-0-1. Next, the Cats travel Friday to Ridge Meadows to take on the struggling 3-6-0-0 Flames before hosting the 6-4-0-0 North Delta Devils on Saturday at PoMo Arena, 7:45 p.m.
