Other cities should copy Port Moody's snow approach
City of Port Moody crews will now be responsible for clearing walkways where city plows have dumped snow — and one PoCo resident thinks her city should follow suit.
The Editor,
Re. “If Moody crews snow you in, they’ll dig you out” (The Tri-City News, Oct. 30).
Last winter, we dutifully shovelled our sidewalk many, many times, only to have a city plow come up the street and dump a mountain of snow right back on it every time. Thank you, city of Port Coquitlam! We hope you see this article and follow Port Moody’s changes to its snow removal bylaw or, even better, change your method of snow plowing.
Some cities plow their snow to the centre of the road or remove the snow using dump trucks, especially on major arterial routes.
Also, thank you to the city of Port Coquitlam for finally plowing our side street last winter and leaving an immovable pile of ice and snow at the entrance to our dead-end lane.
Please, winter in the Lower Mainland is difficult enough without our city crews failing to think about the consequences of their actions.
Fay Wright, Port Coquitlam
