Port Coquitlam council deserves credit for trash actions
Port Coquitlam's latest changes to trash collection are a welcome step, argues the letter writer.
The Editor,
Re. “Residents will remember trash decision next election” (Letters, The Tri-City News, Oct. 21).
If Port Coquitlam city councillors were worried lest their seats be at stake, let me reassure them that there are two votes they can rely on.
Reduce, reuse and recycle have been the watchwords for some time now and that the city has officially implemented them is to their credit.
The city has already provided (free) two composting bins to relieve the stress on disposal. As a person who grew up prior to the introduction of disposable diapers, let me assure PoCo parents that there are other ways to accommodate a child’s natural functions.
Without going into tedious, pedantic detail, there are also various other methods of eliminating or reducing all other types of garbage. If the effort is there, the solution is there.
PoCo has been a leader in many areas. The reduced pick-up schedule, while possibly unpopular, is an acknowledged acceptance of reality.
Councillors, I salute you.
Terry Roberts, Port Coquitlam
