Remember our veterans on Nov. 11 and speak up for our freedoms
Veterans fought for our freedoms, including the freedom of speech that's in danger, says the letter writer.

The Editor,
Re. “The province is attacking our free speech for 2010” (Letters, The Tri-City News, Oct. 16).
In every conflict in past wars, our soldiers bravely gave it all, many times paying the ultimate sacrifice: their lives. And for what?
Side-stepping political wars, they fought to preserve our liberty, our democracy, our freedom of speech. Alas, in Canada, and with the upcoming Olympics, our freedom of speech is threatened, with it undermining the very core of democracy.
People working for change and for democracy have their home searched now by police under false pretext — such as fake dropped 911 calls. All levels of government debate whether to allow people to post signs condemning the Olympics. Canadians should be very worried, for police, fascists and communist states all started by attacking freedom of speech, eroding democracy and passing prohibitive laws.
Governments don’t uphold democracy — people do. This Remembrance Day, pay respect to our fallen soldiers and speak up.
