A Coquitlam RCMP officer is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after a rush-hour collision on Lougheed Highway yesterday.
At about 4:30 p.m. Thursday the officer was responding to a call for service and was proceeding through the Shaughnessy Street and Lougheed Highway intersection with his lights and sirens on when the driver of an eastbound pick-up truck collided with the passenger side of the squad car, which was then pushed into two other cars.
Fire fighters had to cut the officer out of his car and he was removed wearing a neck brace. None of the others involved in the accident suffered any injuries.
Police and the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Section are investigating the collision to determine the sequence of events and the cause of the collision.
Traffic on Lougheed Highway was snarled for several hours.
