Two Port Coquitlam people have put their house up for sale and are attracting bids and donations for their favourite charity.

Danielle and John McLellan are selling their Citadel Heights townhouse and plan to donate 1% of the proceeds, up to $5,000, to the BC SPCA.

They’re also raffling off gifts donated by local businesses to raise money for the animal protection agency and have already collected $200 for the cause.

“I love anything to do with animals,” said Danielle McLellan, who got the idea from a U.S. real estate investment firm she and her husband will work for once they sell their home and move south of the border.

The couple has a dog and a cat and thought it would be beneficial to raise money for the SPCA while also raising the profile of their home, which they are selling privately.

“One of the benefits of selling the house ourselves is that, by not giving a commission, we’ll be able to make a charitable donation,” McLellan said. “[It’s good] for the charity. For us, hopefully, we’ll be able to sell our home and our business will have had positive exposure being connected with a charity.”

Last weekend, McLellan said 60 people toured the house and three made bids.

Bidding ends this Sunday, Oct. 25 and bidders will be notified after the best offer has been identified.

• The house, located at #171-1140 Castle Cres., will be open to the public for viewing and bidding on Oct. 24 and 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. only. Representatives from the BC SPCA will be on hand and refreshments, donated by local businesses, will also be served. For more information about the house, call 778-228-4869 for a recorded message.
