Updated: October 06, 2009 2:07 PM
St. Andrew’s United Church in Port Moody will be the first to provide shelter for local homeless people when the Cold Wet Weather Mat program begins Nov. 1 — and volunteers are needed to ensure the program is a success.
Jobs that need to be done include set-up, clean-up, food serving and cooking, with shifts running from 6 to 8 a.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. Five to seven volunteers are needed per shift.
Volunteer orientation meetings for those interested in helping will be held Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Donations of food, money, supplies, warm clothes and toiletries are also needed.
St. Andrew’s United is located at 2318 St. Johns St., Port Moody.
