A prolific offender is facing multiple charges for mail theft after Coquitlam and Surrey RCMP suspected he was up to his old tricks.
The two detachments launched a joint investigation with the help of Canada Post and on Sept. 9, a 40-year-old Coquitlam man was arrested. A search warrant executed on his home in the 2500-block of Austin Avenue allegedly revealed counterfeit postal keys and equipment used to make them as well as stolen property, including a Canada Post lock, stolen mail, computers and various break-in tools.
"Mail theft investigations are complex... and we are all really happy with the outcome," Sgt. Steve Reinhart of the Coquitlam Prolific Target Team said in a release. "We are all well aware of the links between mail theft and identity theft, so putting one chronic mail thief out of commission is very gratifying."
Heine Hut is facing 10 charges, including personation, fraud, break and enter, possession of break-in instruments and possession of stolen credit cards. He remains in custody until his next court appearance on Oct. 5. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
Police aren't revealing details of items recovered and can't return them until the investigation is complete.
