A sister duo struggling to make a name for themselves in the country music industry will be off to Chicago in October to meet the young woman who inspired them.
Luvena and Sharmaine Kwong, who live in Coquitlam and are both graduates of Gleneagle secondary school, will meet singer Taylor Swift in person and attend her concerts after winning Country Music Television's Taylor Swift's Ultimate Fan Access contest.
The girls made a video of Luvena singing a rap tune they wrote about why they love the young country music star. It drew the most votes in from a Top 25 list.
But when officials from CMT rang her doorbell Thursday to tell her she'd won, she was too busy to answer it.
"I said, 'Not now, I'm on Facebook,'" she said.
She finally did answer the door, at the urging of her mom, and was surprised to see TV cameras in the yard. "I screamed and then I hugged my sister," said Luvena, who turns 20 on Aug. 15.
She and her sister write and sing their own songs, and cover tunes from other artists and post them on YouTube, and consider themselves big fans of Swift.
"She seems like a really down-to-earth person who you could talk to," Luvena said.
The girls' winning video is on CMT.ca, which revealed the winner of the ultimate fan contest Friday.
The girls will travel to Chicago for their Ultimate Fan Access experience from Oct. 9 to 12 and a show about the girls' experiences will be aired later in the fall.
