Cyclists seeking adventure, river views and shade in a ride from Colony Farm Regional Park to Maquabeak Park in Coquitlam will now have to travel along road shoulders because of Port Mann Highway 1 construction.

But officials with the Port Mann project said the detour, beginning Aug. 4 and designed for the public's safety during construction, will be well marked.

The detour route will travel along United Boulevard to Burridge Street and will include a combination of roadside shoulder and gravel paths, but cyclists should use caution and watch for construction and other traffic.

When construction of the new Port Mann Bridge is complete, a permanent bicycle and pedestrian path will be built in the same location.
