A prolific offender is facing new charges after an alleged crime spree that included theft of a Cadillac Seville.

Coquitlam RCMP say the man stole the car on July 9 and was then spotted driving erratically on the morning of July 11. The car was involved in three separate collisions in which the driver fled the scene, and both the driver and car were seen at the location of several petty thefts from retail stores in Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Burnaby throughout the day.

A Coquitlam RCMP officer spotted the man later that day as he rode past on a mountain bike. He was arrested and several pieces of evidence linking him to the rash of crimes were allegedly found on him; the Cadillac was also recovered.

"This offender was apprehended because several police officers recognized him, knew he was up to no good and believed that he was committing crime in the area," said Const. Brigitte Goguen.

The suspect, a well known offender with more than 30 prior criminal convictions, has only been out of custody for about three months.

Randy Torgerson is now facing new charges, including six counts of theft, possession of stolen property and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
