UPDATED: Man killed in driving school crash

A 57-year-old man from Port Coquitlam is dead following a two-car crash involving a student driver Wednesday evening.

The unidentified man was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla owned by a driving school; the female student driver is in hospital.

The man is believed to be a driving school instructor.

The collision happened just before 7 p.m. in the 500-block of Lougheed Highway, near North Road, when a GMC truck travelling east on the highway broadsided the four-door sedan as its driver attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, according to police, however speed may have been an issue.

Anyone who witnessed the accident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Const. Raymond Scott at 604-945-1550.

More on this story to come.
