SUV totalled, people OK
Port Moody firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extract two people from an SUV Sunday morning after it crashed into a light pole at Barnet Highway and St. Johns Street.
Two Coquitlam residents were taken to hospital after a single vehicle collision at Barnet Highway near St. Johns Street in Port Moody Sunday morning.
A brown Infiniti SUV was heading east on Barnet Highway shortly before 7:20 a.m. Sunday when the driver lost control and hit a lamp post. Port Moody firefighters responded and used the Jaws of Life to free the two people trapped inside.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, and his 19-year-old female passenger were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital and released after being treated for minor injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision.
WOMAN STRUCK ON PRAIRIE
A 75-year-old Port Coquitlam woman is recovering in hospital after being hit while crossing Prairie Avenue Monday evening.
The woman was in a marked crosswalk in the 1300-block of Prairie at around 6 p.m. when she was hit by a 24-year-old PoCo man driving a 1996 Honda Civic west on Prairie.
It was the second collision involving a pedestrian in just a few days. Friday morning, a seven-year-old Coquitlam girl was hit and pinned under a car on Rochester Avenue; she had been walking to school with her babysitter and was also in a marked crosswalk.
“It’s really important for motorists to pay attention and be vigilant, particularly in crosswalks,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk. Pedestrians must also be sure to make eye contact with the driver before stepping off the curb, she said.
Police are still investigating the latest collision and are considering charges against the driver.
