Coquitlam playwright Veenesh Dubois is celebrating the honour of having her play, Under the Mango Tree, named Pick of the Fringe.
Nearly 70 productions competed for the top honour at the 25th annual Vancouver Fringe Festival last month.
Under the Mango Tree was written, produced and starred Dubois. She was inspired to write the play after a trip home to her native Fiji.
The semi-autobiographical piece follows a young girl as she seeks the love of her father, who has moved thousands of miles away with the rest of her family to make a better life. Dubois said it's a story that many immigrants can relate to, whatever their background.
"There are universal themes of love and loss," she said in an earlier interview.
