Coquitlam Public Library is launching a Homework Help Club at its Poirier branch on Friday, Jan. 22.

Meant to assist kids in Grades 3 to 7 who struggle with their homework, the club will meet once a week. Kids will work one-on-one with a teenage tutor to learn the concepts and theory needed to finish their homework problems.

Kids who join must bring their school workbooks or assignments to each meeting. The schoolwork can be in any subject. Parents should note that the teens will not do the homework for the younger student.

Teen tutors must be patient, happy to work with younger kids or teens, good students in one or more subjects, and attending high school locally. Teens will receive community service hours for participating.

The club will continue meeting every Friday through March 5. Meetings run from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Nancy Bennett program room. The students and tutors will be supervised by library staff.

Registration is required to join the Homework Help Club. Teens interested in becoming tutors and parents who want to register their kids should call Chris at 604-937-4140.
