FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
STARRY CINEMA
Catch the adventures of Frodo and Bilbo in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at an outdoor screening of the film at Port Coquitlam's Gates Park. Cinema Under the Stars starts at 8:30 p.m., so round up your hobbits, er, children, a blanket or lawn chair, some snacks and enjoy an evening of great outdoor entertainment.
SUMMER AT SUTER BROOK
Summer Nights at Suter Brook Village, a new concert series, continues this week with Sometimes Six, a rock/indie/acoustic duo. Bring a chair and some friends to the community square, and chill out in the wine and beer garden. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
MARTINI ART
The Coquitlam Public Library is calling for artists to display their work at its Martini Tasting Challenge to raise funds for the Poirier "wonder bus." Bartenders are crafting original martinis with a literary twist at the Aug. 16 event; the art will be on display and available for purchase. DAM LESSON
BC Hydro's Brent Wilson, a professional biologist, leads a tour of the Coquitlam Watershed today from 9 a.m. to noon. Learn about the glacially formed, temperate forest and how its ecological processes provide hydro power and tap water for the region.
