There have been many discussions about heritage at Port Coquitlam city hall.
But now residents will be able to show what heritage means to them after the city and the PoCo Heritage and Cultural Society launched the Focus on Heritage photo contest this week.
Residents are asked to submit photos that capture the city's history and culture. Images must fall under the following heritage categories:
• public or private buildings;
• industrial heritage;
• festivals and event;
• public art;
• First Nations;
• trees and landscapes;
• people;
• monuments;
• transportation;
• ecological;
• sports.
Photographers can submit a maximum of three images for consideration and the pictures will be displayed at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village in the fall.
Some of the submitted art may also be featured on the city website (www.portcoquitlam.ca) or the heritage society website (www.pocomuseum.org). Participants will also be eligible for prizes, including a heritage society membership and city memorabilia.
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 8 and pictures must be as a high-resolution 8x10 print or in digital format (jpg or tiff) to be considered. Digital photos can be provided on CD or submitted online at www.portcoquitlam.ca/heritagephotos. Printed submissions can be mailed or dropped off in person at city hall (2580 Shaughnessy St.).
