Shop & give this month
Published: October 09, 2008 6:00 PMThe Tri-Cities’ newest grocery store will Share the wealth this month.
As part of Thrifty Foods’ ongoing support of Share Family and Community Services’ Tiny Bundles program — Thrifty’s at Suter Brook in Port Moody will donate 1% of all gross earnings through Oct. 21 and its Austin Avenue sister store will do the same.
Joanne Granek, Share’s executive director, is appreciative of the support, saying, “Share relies on the community to help us meet the needs of this growing community. We couldn’t do all that we do without support from our corporate citizens.”
Coq. books on wheels
Coquitlam Public Library has opened a bookmobile at its Poirier branch (575 Poirier St., across from Centennial secondary) to provide selected services while the branch is closed for renovations.
The vehicle, parked in the library’s front plaza, offers a selection of adult, young adult and children’s books, as well as the ability to order and pick up materials from the City Centre branch. It’s open Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 6 p.m.
The renovated Poirier branch will reopen in January. Details about changes at the library will continue to be announced in local papers, at the City Centre branch and at www.library.coquitlam.bc.ca.
Munschtime with author
Last year, a Port Moody family was lucky enough to have legendary children’s book author Robert Munsch visit its home for story time. Are you next?
You can enter the fourth-annual Munsch at Home contest, sponsored by the ABC Canada Literacy Foundation, which encourages families to promote literacy at home. The most interesting and creative Family Literacy Day event is selected to host a party for Robert Munsch, their friends and family. The beloved children’s writer and storyteller will attend their party Jan. 17, 2009 and participate in a public reading at the local public library.
Contest entries are now being accepted from families anywhere in Canada who are planning Family Literacy Day parties. To enter, submit an application form that can be downloaded from ABC CANADA’s website, www.abc-canada.org. Submission deadline is Dec. 12.
