Lower Mainland realtors collect blankets, coats for the needy
Tri-City realtors are joining colleagues from Chilliwack to Whistler in collecting coats and blankets for homeless people and the working poor between Nov. 30 and Dec. 7.
Realtors expect to collect an average of 4,000 bags of blankets and coats that are distributed to dozens of shelters, drop-in centres and community organizations. This year, there is an increasing need for winter clothes, says Scott Rusello, president of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver.
"We've seen a tremendous change over the years in the need for the realtors Care Blanket Drive," Russello said in a press release.
"Our region now has over 3,000 homeless people that we know of and countless thousands who rely on food banks and community organizations just to make ends meet. Donating a sweater, jacket or a sleeping bag to the drive allows recipients to have a few extra dollars to spend on essentials like food and shelter.”
Donations to the Realtors Care Blanket Drive stay within the communities in which they are donated or, if the volumes are too large, go to charities in greatest need in neighbouring communities.
