Mall opens kids play park

Shoppers at Coquitlam Centre now have a kids play park to let their kids roam free.

The custom-made area, located near The Bay, includes a west coast exploration theme with a waterfall slide, canoe, red sports car, a 12-foot high tree with a tunnel and activity panels.

The cost for admission is $1 — which is waived for August — and children must be under 42 inches tall to enter. Parent supervision is required.

The grand opening on Wednesday, Aug. 5 will feature the Magic of Christophe, Bernie the Clown, mascot visits, face painting and activities with the Vancouver Aquarium and Greater Vancouver Zoo.

Prizes to local attractions like the aquarium, zoo, Science World, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Stanley Park horse-drawn tours, Vancouver Lookout and Harbour Cruises, will also be awarded via the spin wheel.

Doug Tannahill, guest services manager, said by mid-September the mall will host weekly children's activities. Parents wanting more information on these events can sign up for the e-newsletter at guest services or via www.coquitlamcentre.com.
