Maple Ridge native Connor Redmond will be playing a little closer to home after being traded to the Vancouver Giants last week.

The 17-year-old was picked up in a one-for-one trade with the Red Deer Rebels, with left-winger Lane Scheidl going the other way.

The 6’1” power forward has two assists in 13 games with the Rebels so far this season, as well as 14 penalty minutes and a minus-5 rating.

“We are excited to welcome Connor to our team,” said Giants head coach Don Hay. “He was a high draft pick, and has a lot of talent.”

Redmond is the son of former Los Angeles King Craig Redmond, who was part of the trade that sent Wayne Gretzky to Los Angeles.

Redmond was the Rebels first round pick in the 2007 Bantam Draft, going 11th overall. Scheidl scored twice and had 5 points in 22 games with the Giants.
