X-treme fall to Fusion

The Golden Ears United X-treme U-21 women’s soccer team travelled west of the Pitt River Sunday to take on the North Coquitlam Fusion, falling 2-1 to the home team.

The X-treme got off to slow start with clear conditions on the grass pitch, and found themselves on the defensive for much of the first 20 minutes of the game. A streaking Fusion player managed to get the ball over X-treme keeper Morgon Meys to give the Fusion a 1-0 lead late in the half. However, the X-treme rallied and pushed the play into the Fusion end and were rewarded with a goal off the foot of Kaleigh Storer at the 39-minute mark off of a pass from Alex Desautels.

The score remained 1-1 through to the end of the first half.

The second half saw action at both ends of the pitch with Meys making a number of diving save to keep the scored tied.

However, late in the second, Fusion attackers were able to get behind the X-treme midfield and score on the out-numbered defense to take the lead.

Despite pressure from Amy Skinner, Alysha Scales, Stefanie Ekeli and Lucy Rousey, the X-treme were unable to get the tying goal, falling 2-1 to North Coquitlam.
