Meadow Ridge Knights teams jockey for play-off berths

Week 9 of the Valley Community Football League season featured a number of match-ups between Meadow Ridge club rivals, each fighting for a play-off berth as the post-season fast approaches.
In peewee action, the Blue Knights blanked the Gold Knights 36-0. Jake Laberge and Jan Cabrera each tossed touchdown passes to Matthew Cameron for the Blue Knights, who improve their season record to 6-3 with the win. Chico David scored on both sides of the ball, rushing for one touchdown and returning a fumble for the other score. Eric Ross returned to the lineup after missing several weeks with a broken arm, helping to inspire the Blue Knights defense with strong performances from Peter de Zeeuw, Trent Cooper and Dylan Lacey. The Gold Knights head into the final week of play with a bye, and finish their season with a 6-4 record and a play-off berth.
In atom action, the Blue Knights defeated the Gold Knights by a score of 12-0 to keep their play-off hopes alive. The Blue Knights scored two rushing touchdowns while their defense kept the Gold Knights off the scoreboard. Tyler Spencer, Sebastien Collins and Lukas Kolobara of the Gold Knights played well on defense.
The junior bantam Blue Knights improved their season record to 6-3 with a 68-0 win over a flu-riddled Gold Knights team, allowing the Blue Knights to secure themselves a play-off spot.
In the senior game, the midget Knights lost 25-7 to the North Langley Bears. The Knights spotted the Bears 14 points early in the game and couldn’t make up the deficit. Sean Mellesmoen scored the Knights only major score of the game on a tough two-yard run, while Doug McNally contributed two interceptions on defense. The loss gives the midget Knights a season record of 6-3, putting them in second place in the Midget division.
