A score of local soccer squads cleaned up over the weekend at tournaments in the Tri-Cities.
The Golden Ears United U-11 girls’ Blast won their division in the Port Coquitlam Thanksgiving Day Tournament. They met the PoCo Wildcats in the finals, wrapping up regulation time tied 3-3, and eventually winning in a shoot-out. Tabitha LaForge, Olivia Golby, Makenna Patrick and Madelyn Ferguson each received MVP nods.
The Pitt Meadows Thrashers U-11 select boys team also brought home a gold medal from the Port Coquitlam tourney. The team was on a hot streak with three consecutive shut-outs to their credit going into the final against the Lynn Valley Raptors, who were also undefeated. The Thrashers pulled out the 3-2 win in their toughest test of the tournament.
The Golden Ears United U-11 Select A Strikers continued with their undefeated season with a third-place finish in the Metro Ford Thanksgiving Soccer Tournament this past weekend. Despite a record of three wins and one tie in the four-game round robin, the Strikers were only able to earn a seeding in the bronze medal game because of goal differential.
The Strikers faced Coquitlam Metro Ford Galaxy in that game, beating them 2-1. Tre Spedding, Michael Johnstone, Kyle Claggett, Jorrin Lenton, Ty Rowell, Lars Craik, Thomas Lohr, Kieren Wood, Parker Eales, Brett Didyk, Lachlan Ramsey all played strong for the Strikers, who now have 11 wins, three ties and zero losses so far this season.
