Pitt Meadows Golf Club’s Gudmund Lindbjerg shot a one-under final round of 71 to clinch the B.C. Senior Men’s Amateur Golf Championship on Thursday for the second year in a row. Lindbjerg finished at even par 216 over 54 holes at the Skeena Valley Golf and Country Club in Terrace, becoming just the third player in tournament history to score back-to-back titles.

“This win feels really good,” said Lindbjerg, who lives in Port Moody. “It’s very tough to defend and this course was a real challenge. You really have to manage this course - you don’t just bang the driver every hole. I stayed calm and played well with the help of a great caddie.”

Lindbjerg was the runner-up at the tournament in 2004 and 2005.

After earlier rounds of 72 and 73, Lindbjerg maintained his second round lead of five strokes on runner-up Bill Wilms of Delta.

With the win, Lindbjerg will captain the B.C. team that will compete in the Inter-provincial Team Championship during the first two rounds of the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, Sept. 1 to 4.

Joining him on Team B.C. will be Wilms, Steve Berry, and John Gallacher, also a member of the Pitt Meadows Golf Club.
